What is An Bua?
An Bua is an Irish prize competition platform built around fixed-entry competitions and transparent winner selection.
Each competition has a set number of entries. Once all entries are allocated, a publicly announced external reference draw is used to determine the winner in a clear and verifiable way.
Is An Bua gambling?
No.
An Bua operates as a prize competition, not gambling.
To enter a paid competition, participants must answer a qualifier skill question. A free entry route is also available.
How does An Bua work?
In simple terms:
- Each competition has a fixed number of entries
- To enter, you answer a skill-based qualifier question
- A ticket number is assigned to you
- All issued entries are publicly visible on the competition page.
Once all entries are allocated, we publicly announce which Irish National
Lottery draw will be used as the reference- The ticket that matches the relevant bonus number from that draw is the winner
An Bua does not generate randomness and does not select winners internally.
Do I choose my ticket number?
No.
Ticket numbers are assigned automatically and are publicly visible on the Entries page once issued.
Are entries visible to the public?
Yes.
For every competition, all issued entries are publicly visible the competition page, both during and after the competition.
Entries are shown with anonymised references so results can be independently verified.
How is the winner chosen?
After a competition is filled, An Bua announces which Irish National Lottery draw will be used as the public reference.
The ticket number that matches the relevant bonus number or bonus numbers (depending on the competition type) from that draw is the winner.
What are Micro, Standard, and Extended Draws?
- Micro Draws
Smaller competitions that use one bonus number.
- Standard Draws
Larger competitions that may use more than one bonus number from the same reference draw.
- Extended Draws
Larger fixed-entry competitions that use additional bonus numbers from the same reference draw.

What happens if a competition doesn’t fill?
If a competition reaches its maximum duration without filling:
- it will close, and we will refund the entry cost to each entrants wallet
Is there a free entry option?
Yes.
A free postal entry route is available. Details are provided in the Terms & Conditions.
Free entries are treated exactly the same as paid entries.
How will I know if I’ve won?
Winners are contacted directly. The winning ticket will be visible on the competition page, and results will always be visable on the winners section
